Category Manager

Scope of work

The main function of this position is responsible for all aspects of category management, including
identification of product from supplier, successfully bringing the product to market and ensuring
product profitability and Return on Investment (ROI).

Key Performance Areas

  • Manage sales team for improving sales of a specific category
  • Develop selling strategies based on which company’s competitive and success elements
  • Responsible for the pricing and overall promotion of a product category to maximize consumer appeal
  • Assist in coordinating and executing the business tactics for development, marketing and sales of the products in the category
  • Develop and execute category plans to meet revenue goals
  • Manage inventory levels to maximize sales
  • Assist in preparing capital budget plan and expense management goals
  • Responsible for making changes to the product line to increase profit margin
  • Respond to customer’s queries about new products
  • Implement monthly promotional strategies to achieve sales goals
  • Negotiate price changes with vendors and inform the changes to relevant departments of the
  • Analyze customer requirements and develop product promotions to drive sales
  • Address customer queries and concerns in a timely fashion
  • Perform customer negotiations and determine new customer contract terms
  • Stay updated on industry trends and market competitions
  • Attend industry events and trade shows for promoting company products


Minimum qualification and experience


  • A Bachelor degree in Marketing, or Supply Chain Management is recommended
  • At least 5 years’ experience in retail and marketing is a MUST
  • Strong knowledge of electrical products
  • Experience / Knowledge of the K8 system and netstock would be an advantage
  •  Strong knowledge of computer software packages and MS Office
  • Knowledge and understanding of the procurement processes, laws, and legislations
  • Advanced knowledge of marketing principles and pricing strategies
  • Knowledge of market conditions and competitor products
  • Drivers licence is a MUST
    Desired skills and competencies
  • Must be experienced in hard and soft management skills, analytical and retail management
    skills, as well as people relationship skills
  • Must demonstrate excellent business acumen (i.e. numeracy skills, generation of profit and
    loss, cash flow, margin)
  • Demonstrate ability in creating comprehensive reports, data analysis and forecasting
  • Ability to develop strong business relationships and strategic alliances, both internally and
  • Demonstrate skills to plan and execute high level negotiations with excellent results
  • Demonstrate communication skills, with an ability to convince and influence stakeholders
  • Comfortable multi-tasking and able to deliver results under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Outgoing and committed team player with a strong commercial drive
  • Must be a multi-tasker and effective problem solver that is involved in multiple stages of the
    retail process
  • Ability to think from a consumer perspective and understand buying behavior
  • Exceptional presentation skills
