Credit Control Manager

Our client

Is the leading manufacturer of Traditional African Sorghum Beer (Umqombothi) in South Africa. Umqombothi is the core business of the company. It produces and distributes Umqombothi from 6 Breweries and numerous distribution depots strategically situated throughout South Africa.

 

Role Purpose:

  • The company is looking for a dynamic, results-driven Credit Control Manager to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing customer credit risk, improving cash flow, and supporting the company’s working capital and profitability objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Credit Control function across all regions and depots.
  • Develop and implement effective credit policies and procedures in line with company objectives.
  • Proactively monitor customer accounts, ensuring timely collections and adherence to payment terms.
  • Analyse credit data and financial statements to assess creditworthiness of new and existing customers.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Commercial, and Finance teams to ensure customer accounts are well managed.
  • Initiate appropriate actions for delinquent accounts, including account hold, legal handover, or alternative payment plans.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting on debtors’ aging, collections, and provisions for doubtful debts.
  • Conduct regular account reconciliations and resolve customer disputes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in credit control processes to improve collections efficiency and reduce bad debt exposure.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements related to receivables and credit risk.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Bachelor’s or Graduate’s Degree in accounting, business, or computer science
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in FMCG
  • Stock planning, control and management experience in FMCG
  • Track record of driving strong operational performance through a team
  • Experience in managing a team of at least 15 people
  • Demonstrated ability to manage disciplinary issues in line with relevant legislation
  • Experience with billing systems and enterprise resource planning.
  • Sound time management, leadership, and attention to detail.
  • A critical thinker, negotiator and problem solver.
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement on the job.
