Is the leading manufacturer of Traditional African Sorghum Beer (Umqombothi) in South Africa. Umqombothi is the core business of the company. It produces and distributes Umqombothi from 6 Breweries and numerous distribution depots strategically situated throughout South Africa.
Role Purpose:
- To oversee overall general plant equipment including plant machinery, engineering systems, water and energy utilization systems are well maintained and operating at highly efficient and effective capacities. To ensure optimum utilization of plant through effective asset care, in a safe work environment, to produce quality product at minimum cost which meets customer requirements while complying with legislation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage Asset care strategy
- Manage systems and controls by optimising and monitoring changes
- Ensure all legal requirements for the brewery are up to date.
- To manage all Capex projects related to brewery
- Develop and implement planned scheduled maintenance of the plants machinery and equipment
- In conjunction with Nampak Technicians, ensure minimum down time of the NIMCO 8080 packaging machinery
- Ensure that there is adequate available steam, electricity, water and compressed air at all times
- Ensure stand by equipment is in place and in working order at all times
- Trouble-shoot and solve the plant’s engineering problems
- Act as liaison with original equipment manufacturer via the Technical Manager for all related engineering representatives
- Develop and maintain assets register of plant machinery
- Liaise with the Logistics department on minimum stock levels for stocked items
- Develop and maintain a plant equipment drawing, i.e. steam lines, water lines, and electricity reticulation and wastewater systems of the plant.
- The drawings should be updated as and when any change in any related system change
- To closely monitor the Boiler, the Decanter, pumps; with particular attention to the straining receiver tank, water pumps, cooling towers, crate conveyors and crates washers, hammer mill
- Packaging Machines, should be maintained to near perfect condition and lubricated
- Crate conveyors and crates washers
- Hand on supervise engineering team’s performance and quality of work
- Ensure the confidentiality of all proprietary information in any and all forms as it relates to business and product developments, company patents, and any current research projects and developments
- Be a leader in Environmental, Health and Safety in order to champion and promote occupational health and safety awareness in the workplace and perform risk assessments and arrange training in related discipline
- Report on key performance measures on a daily basis for regular KPA and weekly or monthly for more comprehensive measurements of plant performance
- Liaise with Production Manager to monitor coal usage on a regular basis to ascertain the efficient use of coal and combustion levels
- Check the usage of water and electricity by taking readings of meters available at each point of distribution
- Check and counter sign the daily plant status reports
- Counter sign the job requisitions and drawing spares from stores
- Ensure that the correct protective gears are worn at all times within the plant as you carry out the duties
- Ensure that the Health Standards are adhered to as specified by the company
- Ensure safety, healthy & environmental legislation compliance
- Maintain safety and housekeeping standards
- Maintain and calibrate site instrumentation
- Identification of unsafe practices and ensuring all safety measures are adhered to
Qualifications/Competencies:
- Matric
- Degree in Engineering or related field.
- Qualified Engineer
Experience:
- At least 7 years’ experience in an Engineering field, five at senior level
- Prior experience in a FMCG environment
- Good knowledge of modern Asset care principles
- Extensive Knowledge and involvement in NOSA System
- 2-3 Years as a Packaging or Brewing & Utilities Engineer
- Performance management experience
- Sound understanding of safety, healthy & environmental legislation compliance
